Hilltoppers welcome new coaches

nedbalskiZach NedbalskiThe Hilltopper Staff is pleased to welcome Coach Zach Nedbalski to our staff. Coach Nedbalski is the head coach at Division III Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Coach Nedbalski will be the Head Coach for the Carolina Hilltopper Big Horn team, a group of younger players who will travel locally to three tournaments this summer.

Prior to heading to North Carolina, Coach Nedbalski was a graduate assistant coach at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Berry just completed it's most successful season ever barely missing the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Before Coach Nedbalski coached at Berry, he was an assistant at Randolph- Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, a member of the ODAC Conference (arguably the toughest conference in Division III lacrosse). He helped lead R-MC to 14 wins and back-to-back appearances in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference postseason tournament in his two seasons there. Coach Nedbalski also has international coaching experience, having coached for the English Lacrosse Association in South London. He worked with the U-16 team and was involved in all aspects of coaching that program.

Coach Nedbalski attended Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina (a Division II school). He served as a two-year captain and earned the Coach's Award in 2004 and 2007. He was part of a team that was ranked nationally during his time in Charlotte.

Coach Nedbalski will be joined by Coach Dominic Koplar, the current head J.V. coach at East Chapel Hill High School. Coach Koplar has led his team to two consecutive undefeated seasons at East Chapel Hill, where he was also a student and member of a state championship team.

Great Session Skilltoppers!

Many thanks to all the players and their families who attended the first of several 2013 Skilltopper Lacrosse Clinics at N.C. Central University.

The Hilltopper staff was happy to welcome over 50 young players who spend three hours under perfect skies on the turf. Coach Bates was accompanied by Coach Jacob Manning and Coach Daniel Thayer. He was also assisted by five current Guilford College players and several current Hilltoppers who are still in high school.  Having so many instructors made it easier to spend more time working with players in smaller groups or even individually when one of the coaches wanted to address an aspect of a player's game. Some players come from over 100 miles in order to attend the session!

Look for more Skilltopper Sessions to come both in Greensboro and Durham. The Hilltopper Summer Season begins soon, so check back often for updates, photos and videos of the summer campaign.

Guilford Lacrosse Skills Camp

We are very excited to announce our Pre-Season Skills Camp. This year we will be hosting the event at Haworth Fields on the northwest corner of our campus. This camp will be an opportunity for current middle school players (grades 5-8) to:

  • Prepare for their upcoming season
  • Target specific fundamental stick skills
  • Improve overall Lacrosse IQ through college level drills
  • Benefit from an outstanding player to coach ratio

The cost for this event is $40. Please bring a completed Health Waiver (download below) and a check made out to “Guilford College” with “Men’s Lacrosse” in the memo line. We need email confirmation that you plan to attend by March 21st. Skilltopper Middle School Training

mug batesAnnouncing the Carolina Hilltopper Middle School SKILLTOPPER SESSION in Durham.

Coach Nate Bates, the Guilford College Men's Assistant and Hilltopper Elite Head Coach, will hold a tune up session geared for middle school players on April 7th at N.C. Central University, on the turf. The session will begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. Coach Bates will be accompanied by several collegiate players and current Hilltoppers during this session.

The cost of this session is $35.00 and Coach Bates will spend time teaching sound lacrosse fundaments for all lacrosse positions. Coach Bates grew up in Upstate New York and has served as a high school head coach prior to joining the collegiate ranks. He also assists our U-13 and U-15 coaches in preparing practice plans.

High School tryouts on for Sunday

This Sunday, February 10th at 6:15 p.m. on the campus of N.C. Central University.

The tryout will be held on turf fields from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  In order to participate, you must complete the online registration. If you are not familiar with the turf facilities, please review this map:

Please park in large commuter lot, designated as C, which is located adjacent to the track and turf. The facility is easily accessed by Highway 55 if you are coming from I-40.

Please bring a reversible pinnie and full gear. Remember we are on turf, so cleats are advised (and you are welcome to wear sweats if the night is cold).

Summer Tryouts Rescheduled

ELITE, RAMS, and BIG HORNS

Due to the heavy rain at our practice facility in Graham, our tryout has been rescheduled to Sunday, February 10th at N.C. Central University located in Durham (link 1801 Fayetteville St, Durham, NC 27707).  We will conduct the tryout on turf fields from 6:15 p.m - 8:30 p.m.  If you have not submitted your registration, please do so today. You will receive updates and information on the tryout and other pertinent Hilltopper information once you are registered. We must receive a waiver in order to participate in the tryout.

We look forward to seeing you on the 10th! You now have a few weeks to not only get ready for our tryout, but to also prepare for the upcoming high school season. Thank you for your interest in Hilltopper Lacrosse, we are elated in the number of young men who have registered.

U-13 and U-15 CAROLINA HILLTOPPERS

We will hold our U-13 and U-15 Carolina Hilltopper tryouts on Sunday, February 3rd.  Yes, it is Super Sunday but we will be finished well in advance to the big game. Our tryout will be held at N.C. Central University on turf fields (link: 1801 Fayetteville St, Durham, NC 27707) from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
